Check your direct debits

Many of us have at least some direct debits on our bank accounts. Some might have passed their due by date. You might be no longer using the service. Perhaps you forgot to cancel the direct debit. You might be paying for the same service with different companies at different rates.

There are many stories where a relative with a power of attorney becomes alarmed to discover that their older loved one has been:

  • double charged for services
  • charged for services that they have forgotten to cancel, forgotten they had or never received.

Don’t let that happen to  you or your loved one.

Make a habit of routinely reconciling each direct debit with the goods or service you receive and the cost. If  you cancel goods or services, cancel the direct debit immediately.
